The Long Room

The house's first grand room: forty-four feet under a limed-beam ceiling, running to three arched doors on the sea. Morning light crosses the whole floor long before it reaches the gallery at the far end. It has to hold six to eight people comfortably in the evening and still leave a quieter corner for reading alone. Nothing here can block the view through to the next room.

The room's own light

“Photographed once, under one light.”

“Lamps glowing gently, even in daylight.”
